Pear Head's Charlie Brown Cache Series
This is a simple series of caches that I've put out in some St. Louis County public land.
There is parking available at the Schultz Rd at N46 55.413 W92 08.744. Don't block in the ATV's at the gate - they are allowed to circumvent the gate on the east side. There is plenty of parking for at least two vehicles at the gate.

There will be a number of caches in the series, each named after a different Schulz character. At present I'm listing four although there may be more:
Snoopy
Lucy (aka Cache: F)
Linus
Pigpen
To try and spread out the fun, each cache will be approved on a different date to get the FTF folks a chance for each one.
For those that know how much I am not fond of puzzle caches, think of this as payback. Think of it as years of frustration in solving all of your puzzles. Trust me, I cannot make them hard enough for us to be even. :)
All of the caches should be pretty close to the existing trails. The 'trails' are forest management roads that are being used by ATVs - they are fairly wide and easy to navigate. The caches are not hard hides at all - the purpose is to get you outdoors and hiking. If you're having a hard time locating the cache then it may be missing.

What's this?
You mean you've posted coordinates, and then the coordinates take you right there to the cache??? No algebra, no need for $800 graphic programs or knowledge of the post-Impressionist movement? Man, you are one crazy dude!
Hey, can you find out the dates when DLH is in the Cities, and release them on THOSE dates? Not that it would help much, I've decided he's clones.
:)
Ideas
Now you're just giving me ideas you know... ;)
Actually, of the four in place, two are puzzle caches. The puzzle is complete for one and I have a team working on the other one as we speak.
I have a release schedule in my head for the caches that will hopefully mix up the FTFs a little..
Thanks Hal
Hal is working on creating one of my puzzle caches (he's doing the puzzle part since he's in LA - I'm doing the container part since...he's in LA). I told him I was slightly concerned about the puzzle being too easy. He quickly put my fears to rest. I'll summarize it quickly:
"So we'll see how the clues go. If it's too easy, you can keep it as is, or let me know and I can crank up the difficulty."
Crank 'er up Hal!
New cache
I posted the coordinates to Lucy (aka Cache: F) on the front page. See the article here.
That was plenty, Hal.
So this is a crossword in a different sense of the puzzle than I'm used to - so I think it's reasonable to ask some questions about the rules of the game. (of course, if the puzzle is to figure out the rules, fine , but...)
I don't think I'm giving anything away with the questions
Q1: Is there a precedent for this type of puzzle, or is this a Hal thing? If there is, what do you call these? (my google homework didn't turn up anything..)
Q2: OK - 8 letter blocks - and I can come up with 8 letter words for most (but not all) of these - I'll assume you need 8, so this is not really a question, unless this is a bad assumption.
Q3: Starting points (I assume) are in arbitrary places - but the words can go clockwise or counterwise. I'm assuming clockwise, because that is the way clocks go.
Q4: Most crosswords have relationships among words. For the ones I've solved, they seem independent. Is there any relevance to overall structure?
Feel free to answer any, or all, or none of these! (I'd sort of prefer one of the first 2...) :)
What can I say?
Not sure how much I can give away, as it sort of isn't my puzzle anymore, but I will say that I didn't invent this particular puzzle (other than the way to connect the crossword puzzle to the coordinates, with the help of Matt). So there is a precedent, but unfortunately, I don't know that it has a particular name. (Honestly! I'm not just trying to be difficult.)
I'm not making any comment on anything else unless I get the go-ahead. I wish this was helpful, but I bet it wasn't.
Not too many hints...
We have to make you work at this some. :)
I will touch Q2 though - you're going to need to rethink your answers if they aren't 8 letters.
Thanks - I looked all around
Thanks - I looked all around for something like this, it seems unique. I do like it when a puzzle cache hangs out there for several days, tho I'd like it better if I actually solved the puzzle. Anyway this one is pretty neat - have to talk to you about it when it's solved (assuming that happens).
Pig Pen Code
Here there. How or what did you use to make that Pig Pen Code? I have a couple of series I am planning but I do not know how to implement it. What I mean is I do not know how to post the code.
One of these days I'm going to make it up that way and hit some of the cahes up there.
Hope to see around sometime.
re: Pig Pen Code
I assume you're asking how I created the graphic?
Honestly I already forgot. The cache was just published although the work was done well over a month ago on it. :)
I believe I found all of the individual graphics that I needed, then I probably used GIMP to assemble them all into one large image. I'm just guessing though (that's how I'd do it now).
I don't recall using a website somewhere to put it all together if that's what you're asking..
Careful not to give too much away here. :)
Time to add on?
I've been thinking recently about placing some caches. I'm thinking now that I may add some more caches to this series. Because of my intense dislike of puzzle caches I'll probably make the hides some nice simple ammo cans in the woods...
Then ghost can stop complaining about not finding caches in 9 days or whatever it is. ;)
